Brief Description of the Program:
The Meals on Wheels program is a nationwide, non-profit,
volunteer program that services needy homebound individuals.
The Meals on Wheels program started in Great Britain around
1941. It eventually made its way to the U.S. in 1954 and has been
servicing communities around the globe ever since.

What They Do?
Volunteers for Meals on Wheels bring nutritional meals to
homebound people at a very low cost. Actually, it costs nothing
for the meals, but they do encourage a monthly donation to help
keep the program running. If one is not able to make a donation
they won’t turn them away. They provide one hot and one cold
meal per day. They provide meals five days a week for as long
as the person needs it.

Who Qualifies?
Any person whom is unable to leave their home, unable to cook for
themselves, or, who can not afford a traditional means of food delivery
(must be homebound).

Why Meals On Wheels Is Beneficial:
The Meals on Wheels program provides a service that enables
homebound persons that are unable to cook or who can’t afford
another food delivery method, a chance to stay in their home and
maintain their independence. This service can also provide a form of
social interaction. Even though the volunteers just drop off the food,
they often engage in conversation with the clients which ensures a
healthy, uplifting, social exchange.
